#TogetherAgainstCorona: Fighting The Misinformation Pandemic

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) came with impacts on various sectors. The information sector is one of the most impacted, a lot of misinformation has continued to fly on computer screens. It’s even more difficult to stop the spread of this fake news because of the tough it is to regulate the social media space of such information.

Search for Common Ground (Search) with funding from the European Union is implementing a rapid-response 15-month action “Working Together Against Corona” that will support an effective, conflict-sensitive response to the COVID-19 pandemic in a way that prevents further deterioration of social cohesion in fragile contexts in Africa, namely in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Nigeria. This action has a two-fold purpose: on the one hand, it aims to render the response to the pandemic in the targeted countries more effective by
ensuring citizen acceptance of the response through access to reliable information on the other; it will mitigate the negative impact of the crisis on social cohesion and prevent it from exacerbating existing conflict dynamics.

Fortunately, I’m one of the digital creators that will be working on this project to ensure that misinformation is curbed. With questionable coronavirus content flooding airwaves and online channels.

What’s being done to limit its impact?

My job description is simple; to ensure that the tidal wave of misinformation and conspiracy theories is brought to an end.

How do I intend to achieve this?

I’ll be using podcasting and blogging to create weekly fact checking content.

Are you ready for the ride?
Let’s go there, misinformation is a pandemic!!
