Abuja Mall, Next Cash and Carry Gutted By Fire

Next Cash and Carry – one of Abuja’s most foremost shopping mall has been gutted by fire which begun in the early hours of today, 26th December, 2021.

The mall which is located at the Jahi area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja became a cloud of thick grey smoke at about 10am as it went up in flames having emergency operatives tried to forestall the further spread of the fire.

As at the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire is unknown but all roads linking to the mall has been closed while officers and men of the fire service are in full swing, trying to contain with the fire.

The Head of Search and Rescue National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Abuja, Labuan Ahman who spoke with reporters called on mutual aid fire services for support.

“The whole of Next Cash and Carry is on fire. We have the FCT and Federal Fire Services on the ground. We are calling on all mutual aid fire services to deploy to Next Cash and Carry. The mutual aid fire services are Julius Berger, CBN, and then the Armed Forces.

“We are calling on the Armed Forces, the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, and the Army to provide support as they usually do,” Ahman said.

He further stressed that they need urgent assistance to put out the fire which as at the time of this report has destroyed the major parts of the entire building including the roof.
